Our thanks go out to Mike Duman of the Mike Duman Auto Superstore in Suffolk for selecting Southeastern Correctional Ministry as the recipient of the "Duman Gives Back Award" in December 2021.
The "Duman Gives Back Award" is a $1,000.00 gift that was given once a month throughout the year 2021 by the Mike Duman Auto Superstore to a non-profit operating in Suffolk, Virginia.
Thank you Mike for your generosity and for your contributions to the well being of the community!
We were saddened to hear that Sheriff B. J. Roberts of Hampton passed away on December 26, 2020. He supported SCM in many ways and was considered a close friend of the ministry.
A Virginia-Pilot article of January 8, 2020 noted the following regarding B. J. Roberts and his career:
"As the newly elected sheriff for Hampton in November 1992, B.J. Roberts said he’d walked into the downtown jail certified for 135 but spilling over with about 500 inmates. He’d become the first African-American to serve in the position and was the first African-American president for the National Sheriffs’ Association in 2010, but most recently, Roberts was deemed No. 1, or the longest serving sheriff in the state, by the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association".
